Sean
Townsend, Senior Research Officer - Oceanography
Sean Townsend has recently
been appointed the National Focal Point for the
Clearing-House Mechanism as well as for the Biosafety
Clearing-House under the UN Convention on Biological
Diversity. He has completed a Bachelor’s degree with honours
at University of the West Indies (UWI, Mona) with particular
focus on Marine Ecology. He has been trained in Biological
Oceanography at the Bermuda Biological Station for Research
(BBSR) in Bermuda. In addition, he is a certified SCUBA
Diver as well as been trained in underwater photography for
several years.

Tracy
Commock, Director of Natural History Division - Botanist
As Director of the NHD,
Mrs. Tracy Commock is responsible for ensuring the efficient
management of the national collections of plants and animals
and researching, documenting and disseminating information
on biodiversity. She has also been employed as a botanist
IOJ and
plans to
pursue further studies on the genus Phyllanthus in
the Euphorbiaceae.

Dionne
Newell, Senior
Research Officer - Entomology
Mrs. Dionne
Newell joined the Institute of Jamaica in 1999 as the Senior
Research Officer (Entomology) in the Natural History
Division (NHD) with a mandate to preserve and maintain the
national zoological collections. Her duties include
conducting research, collecting specimens and curating the
collections.

Keron
Campbell,
Assistant Botanist
Keron Campbell is the
Assistant Botanist in the Natural History Division at the
Institute of Jamaica. He is currently pursuing a Masters of
Science (M.Sc.) in Natural Resource Management at the
University of the West Indies (Mona) with a schedule date of
completion in 2005. He has completed a Bachelor’s degree
with honours at UWI (Mona), majoring in the field of Botany
and a minor in Zoology.

Elizabeth
Morrison, Zoologist
Elizabeth is a specialist
lecturer for the Tourism Product Development Company
specializing in Flora and Fauna. Currently, she is the
technical advisor for a joint project between the Natural
History Society of Jamaica and the Institute of Jamaica,
which explores and documents the unique links between
folklore and Jamaican Natural History.

Sherene
James, Education Officer - Geologist
Sherene is a Geologist by training with a
Bachelor’s degree in Earth Science from the University of
the West Indies, Mona and is currently completing a PhD
in Geology also at the University of the West Indies,
Mona, part of which was carried out at the University of
Liverpool in the United Kingdom on a Commonwealth Split-Site
Scholarship.
