Sherene James, Education Officer (Geologist)

Sherene
is a Geologist by training with a Bachelor’s degree in Earth
Science from the University of the West Indies, Mona and is
currently completing a PhD
in Geology also at the University of the West
Indies, Mona, part of which was carried out at the University of
Liverpool in the United Kingdom on a Commonwealth Split-Site
Scholarship. While in the UK she volunteered at the National
Museums Liverpool where she obtained valuable experience in
museum curating and various aspects relating to museum
administration.
Sherene joined the Institute of Jamaica in
2006 as the Education Outreach Officer in the Natural History
Division (NHD). She is responsible for the planning,
implementation and supervision of the in-house and outreach
educational programmes of the division.
Prior to Joining the NHD, Sherene was a part-time lecturer in
the Department of Geography and Geology, where she taught
introduction to Earth Sciences in the level 1 BSc. programme.
Sherene has
attended both local and international conferences and has papers
and abstracts published in international publications. She has
co-led various local field trips for audiences ranging from
learned societies, such as the Geological Society of Jamaica as
well as trips related to her PhD work.
Miss James is
a member of the Geological Society of Jamaica (GSA), the
Geological Society of America (GSA), the International
Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) and the Society for
Sedimentary Geology (SEPM).
